I sincerely hope that this paid leave will cover am employee when a family member has a serious medical condition, as well as their own.

This past year, both of my parents had cancer, one spending 3.5 months in a hospital for care. In addition, I came down with pneumonia, and about half a dozen other serious medical conditions that would have taken me out alone, let alone combined.

I live in Cali and work for an employer that self-insures for disability. I received 66% from my disability insurance and my employer topped me up to 100% from there. As a result, I did not take a hit on my finances.

I am one of the lucky ones, both for living in Cal, and because of my employer.

Everyone should be lucky like me, regardless of their situation.
