I am 60 and was downsized from one of the largest health insurance. I had the third most highest seniority in our section. They refer to us as Doc Flow Workers, but when it cam down to lay off, the ones who was keying in some information and did what I did at times, suddenly became keyers and nothing about doc flow. I had more time (10 1/2 years)assoc degree, Certified as a RMA,good attendance, no pre existing conditions or on any medication, non smoker that is required for new hire. But I was downsized at 60 years old where only one left in doc flow is older than my self and had 13 years. Since this new CEO took over, people are loosing their jobs at record pace. Promedica and St Luke's Hospital are to go to FTC Court in Washington May 30th for them taking over to much in the area for competition. They are one of the largest employers, then why am I let go for lack of work, retrain me somewhere else in the company.

It is not only women who are affected --it is just about everybody especially in states with so-called 'right to work' laws. These laws allow Employers to hire and fire anyone anytime during the week, day, or night for any reason, no reason or whatever silly reason that they can dream up.
Perhaps the employer does not like the color of your lipstick---he or she can fire you without notice et al. Right to Work laws give almost absolute power to employers and this kind of power corrupts. Perhaps he or she does not like it because you are going to school and taking courses that do not pertain to his or her business or you have said before going to work there that you cannot work after certain hours because you have kids to pick up or other things you must do after work---he can fire you for that and it has been done.

I for one would like more statistical information published in regards to single working parents. Discrimination especially against women who are raising families single-handedly should fine a corporation heavily. I would guess that it rings true today that much of the female workforce still consists of women who have little choice but to work in order to provide, just as their male counterparts do. Many single working parents are overeducated because we are so often challenged by parenting and work conflicts. We return to school until we can find new employment. So many of us are underpaid for our education-level and frustrated with those who decide our pay and manage us who are less-educated, less experienced...their just men. (Different body parts.)
